  • Notes 
    • Marie Rose had a sister by the same name. Both reached adulthood and were married to two different men and had numerous children during an overlapping time frame, so they had to be two separate individuals. On some records the first name is Marie Rose, on others it is Marie Rosalie and on others it is just Rose. The use of these variants was inconsistent on official documents, so it is not possible to distinguish them by which name variant is recorded on any particular document. There were also other women with the same name living in the same area at the same time. The husbands' names were François Pelletier (1819-1891) and Henri Plourde (1825-1905). The sisters were born 9 years apart, in 1824 and 1815. We can be sure that the younger sister married the younger husband due to the burial record of Rosalie, the younger sister. She is noted to be 45 years old at the time of her death, and the wife of Henri Plourde. This is the definitive proof that it was the younger sister who married Henri Plourde.

Earliest North American ancestors

My earliest European ancestors in North America were probably Nicolas Marsolet and Louis Hébert. However, one of my 8th great-grandmothers, the wife of Philippe Mius d'Entremont, was a Native North American of the Mi'kmaq tribe. Unfortunately, there is uncertainty about her name. She may have been called Kjipuktuk. In modern times, the name Marie Coyote Blanc has been assigned to her, but there is no evidence that this was actually her name. Her ancestors would obviously been in North America long before Europeans arrived.

DNA Links

The French-Canadian lines of my family tree can be confirmed by literaly thousands of DNA links that support the family tree as mapped out. And, due to a couple of lucky DNA links to 3rd cousins in Sweden, with well-documented family trees of their own, I can extend my Swedish roots back several centuries. The German links have proved much more difficult, and in most cases, I have been unable to trace my German ancestors much further back in time than their arrival in North America.
